Lance Battles Crowd on Trump Tax Return Question

A Patersonian cropped up in leafy Somerset tonight, so we’ll file this one under City Confidential.

Someone with a microphone at U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance’s (R-7) town hall at Raritan Valley Community College asked the congressman if he backs U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell’s (D-9) call to President Donald J. Trump to release his tax returns.

Will you support Pascrell’s efforts and those of the majority of the country to get the President or the IRS to turn over his tax returns to the House Ways and means Committee?

The place went nuts.

Lance said Pascrell’s bill goes too far.

He said he thinks, however, that Trump should turn his tax returns over to the public and urged him to do so.

He said he didn’t like the overreach of Congress on tax returns. Then he added that private citizens shouldn’t have to turn over tax returns.

The place again went bonkers – only more so.

Like, he’s not a private citizen.

He’s the president.

Then Lance said he doesn’t release his tax returns.

Off the rails.
