Mercer County Executive Dan Benson Endorses Verlina Reynolds-Jackson for Congress

Mercer County Executive Dan Benson today announced his endorsement of Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson in her campaign for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th District.

Benson praised Reynolds-Jackson’s decades of public service as a social worker, Trenton City Council member, and four-term state legislator, citing his firsthand experience working alongside her on the Assembly Budget Committee.

“We do not need to look beyond the borders of Mercer County and the district to find the candidate best prepared to succeed Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman,” said Benson.

“In the Assembly, I watched Verlina tackle tough issues like New Jersey’s maternal mortality crisis, expanding paid family leave, and stopping medical debt from destroying people’s credit. She is a proven leader who is ready to serve on day one,” he continued. “On the Budget Committee, I saw her fight tirelessly for the district and successfully bring millions in state funding to much-needed projects.”

Benson added, “Assemblywoman Reynolds-Jackson is running because families are having a hard time making ends meet. In Congress, she’s going to fight to ensure every hardworking family can afford to put food on the table.”

“I am proud to have the support of Mercer County Executive Dan Benson,” said Reynolds-Jackson. “Families are feeling squeezed, trust in government has been shaken, and too many voices are ignored. I am running for Congress to fight for affordability, opportunity, and dignity—and to make sure New Jersey has a representative who will stand firm, speak clearly, and lead with purpose. Our nation is facing a pivotal moment, and it’s essential that our voices remain strong on Capitol Hill as we fight for healthcare, economic opportunity, and the dignity every family in our district deserves.”

Reynolds-Jackson is a lifelong Trentonian and a proven leader with a long record of service to the Mercer County community. In the Assembly, she serves as Chair of both the Legislative Black Caucus and the Assembly Education Committee. She has long been a champion for education, advocating for federal education funding, school nutrition programs, and expanded job training opportunities.
