An Appellate Court on Tuesday will hear oral arguments in Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh’s suit to prevent the state Attorney General Matt Platkin from taking over Silk City’s Police Department.

NorthJersey.com reports that the League of Municipalities has joined the mayor’s cause to prevent the state takeover.

Engelbert Ribeiro, the Saygegh appointee ousted as police chief as part of the AG’s organizational plan for the department, and Mark Bulur, confidential assistant to the public safety director, are party to the mayor’s suit.

Since the New Jersey attorney general took control of the police department 16 months ago, Paterson PD has held community listening sessions to address residents’ concerns. Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh joins PIX11 to discuss an ongoing lawsuit to end the takeover, relief from extreme heat, and new crimefighting tools being launched by the police department.

State Senate President Steve Sweeney called for the governor’s chief counsel Matt Platkin to resign over the mishandling of sexual assault charges brought by Katie Brennan against Al Alvarez, another state worker, according to a Press of Atlantic City story.

  1. I say leave the AG in charge so you can see what the mayor is not doing. And for those people that don’t live in paterson shut up and mind the business that pays you. The PPD has been better ever since he has put The OIC. All before Noone cared what happened to anyone in this city.
