Part Three In a Series: Who Do You Support For Governor: Bonnie Constag of Sayreville

NEWARK – Organizing in opposition to President Donald J. Trump’s budget, the War Against Poverty Coalition protesters stood on Broad Street under a beating late day sun on Thursday, among them Bonnie Constag of Sayreville.

Constag is a constituent of Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-19), of Sayreville, chair of the Assembly Budget Committee and the former state director of Bernie Sanders for President.

She supports him in the Democratic Primary for Governor, she told InsiderNJ.

“John Wisniewski,” Constag said unequivocally when asked to name her choice for governor.

“But he’s not going to get it,” she added almost instantaneously, a note of irritation and sadness creeping into her voice.

“He reminds me of Bernie Sanders,” she explained, even as she raised her protest sign with both hands in the direction of passing cars on Broad. “He’s more liberal. He’s not just for the middle class, but for the poor.”

Why does she feel Wisniewski won’t win, InsiderNJ asked.

“He doesn’t have the money,” Constag said. “They’ve already all lined up for what’s his name.”

That would be former Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy, who won all the Democratic County organization lines.
