Paterson to Host First-ever Muslim Prayer Service at Hinchliffe

On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Mayor Andre Sayegh will join Council President Shahin Khalique, the Islamic Foundation of New Jersey, and members of Paterson’s diverse and vibrant Muslim community to commemorate the joyous occasion of Eid Al-Adha. This special celebration will mark the first-ever Eid Jamat at the historic Hinchliffe Stadium, where community members will gather to pray together.

Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, holds immense significance in the Islamic calendar. It symbolizes the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. This holiday represents a time of spiritual reflection, gratitude, and acts of charity for the Muslim community worldwide. Eid Al-Adha is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam.

Paterson, renowned for its rich cultural tapestry and strong community bonds, takes great pride in embracing and celebrating religious diversity. The city has a long-standing tradition of honoring and recognizing the importance of Eid Al-Adha. Hundreds of community members are expected to attend and join in prayer.

  1. This is why the separation of church and state MUST BE absolute, so my tax dollars don’t go to any one religion.

  2. I am so grateful for this celebration of Eid al-Adha today in Paterson at Hinchcliffe Stadium and all those who planned it and will join together today! Eid Mubarak!
