“Action to Stop Separation of Families at the Border Rally” Outside NJ Congressman Chris Smith’s Freehold Office
Wednesday, June 13 at 4 p.m. “Action to Stop Separation of Families at the Border Rally” Outside NJ Congressman Chris Smith’s Freehold Office, 112 Village Center Drive, Raintree Shopping Center
Freehold, New Jersey — On June 13, 2018, Casa Freehold, New Labor, Families Belong Together, Greater Red Bank Women’s Initiative, among others, and concerned constituents will hold a protest outside the office of Congressman Christopher H. Smith who serves the 4th New Jersey Congressional District.
This public gathering will be the latest in a series of weekly demonstrations outside the Congressman’s office since the beginning of the Trump administration. For more than 25 years, Smith has refused to meet publicly at a town hall meeting.
“Casa Freehold is appalled at the separation of children from their parents at our southern border. We are part of a national campaign demanding that this practice end, that parents and children be reunited, and that those seeking asylum be allowed to move forward with their cases.” said Rita Dentino, Executive Director of Casa Freehold. Wendy Sabin, a local organizer from NJ Congressional District 4, added: “As his constituents, we are petitioning Rep. Smith to show compassion by introducing a house version of Senate bill S. 3036 ‘to limit separation of families at or near ports of entry’, which would immediately end these horrifying and unjust practices.” https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/115/s3036
All residents and friends of the 4th District are encouraged to attend the rally at Rep. Smith’s office with signs and flags. Please wear red, white and blue patriotic garb in celebration of Flag Day on June 14. Constituents who wish to leave written comments at the Congressman’s office need to present photo identification as per office policy.
