After Lagging Behind on Signing Discharge Petition on Ukraine Aid, “Co-Sponsor” Andy Kim Skips Vote to Condemn Illegal Abduction of Ukrainian Children

Kim Has Now Missed Staggering 43.2% of Votes in 2024

RED BANK, NJ — Still having not signed on to a discharge petition that would force House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring a bill on Ukrainian aid funding to a vote despite a social post in support, Congressman Andy Kim missed another opportunity to support the besieged country last night. Despite being listed as a co-sponsor, Kim failed to vote on a bill that would formally condemn the illegal abduction of Ukrainian children by Russian forces, a reprehensible action that has led to international war crimes charges against Vladimir Putin. Kim’s inaction when it’s time to show up and vote is yet another example of the Congressman failing to deliver for New Jersey, which is home to the fourth largest Ukrainian community in America with over 66,000 residents.

Following his skipped vote ensuring American ownership of TikTok last week, once again, Kim was the only member of the New Jersey delegation who did not show up to vote for this bipartisan bill. Along with an additional missed vote last night, the absence means that Kim has now skipped a staggering 43.2% of House votes in 2024.

“Once again, Andy Kim is putting his own personal politics above the duties he swore to uphold as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives by missing even more Congressional votes,” said Murphy campaign spokesperson Alex Altman. “An abysmal 43.2% absentee rate would be absolutely unacceptable in any profession, and it’s absurd that Congressman Kim continues to shirk his responsibilities and abandon New Jersey’s families. Simply put, an absenteeism rate of that magnitude is an abdication of duty on behalf of his constituents.

“Congressman Kim proves every day that New Jeseyans can’t count on him to show up in Washington and do his job,” continued Altman. “Tammy Murphy will be a steadfast champion for New Jersey’s families, and she will always stand up to an extreme Republican agenda and show up for our values.”
