America’s Largest LGBTQ Civil Rights Organization, the Human Rights Campaign, Endorses Mikie Sherrill for U.S. Congress
Fairfield, NJ — In another major endorsement for Congressional Candidate Mikie Sherrill, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), today announced their support of Sherrill for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. With more than 3 million members across the country, HRC is largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for the LGBTQ+ community.
“Mikie Sherrill is a proven leader who will fight each and every day in Congress for the hard-working families of New Jersey’s 11th District,” said HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse. “As we face shameful attacks on the fundamental American values of fairness and equality, Mikie Sherrill will stand up to career politicians who put their own ideology ahead of the people of New Jersey. HRC is proud to endorse Mikie Sherrill, and we look forward to working closely with her in Congress to advance LGBTQ equality.”

“We need leaders in Congress who are committed to protecting equal rights for all Americans, including our LGBTQ community, and I have done so my entire life.” said Mikie Sherrill. “It is an honor to have the endorsement of HRC, an organization that has fought tirelessly to protect equal rights and fight discrimination. I’ve fought for our values in the United States Navy and here in New Jersey as a federal prosecutor. I’m ready to continue to do so in Congress.”
Mikie Sherrill is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District against Assemblyman Jay Webber. Webber has a long history of anti-LGBTQ votes and rhetoric in the State Assembly. In the New Jersey Assembly, he voted against banning conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth, voted against marriage equality, and opposed civil unions. Not only has Assemblyman Webber stated that being gay was a choice, he repeatedly introduced amendments to the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
Sherrill is also endorsed by Vice President Joe Biden, Congressman Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Emily’s List, VoteVets, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, Giffords, NARAL, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Feminist Majority, End Citizens United, New Politics, NewDem PAC, Serve America, Sierra Club, Off the Sidelines, BlueWaveNJ, Chatham Moms for Change, NJ 11th for Change, and Madison Area Call to Action. She also recently earned endorsements in her primary election from The New York Times and the Observer-Tribune.
