An Open Letter from Robin Gurin to the Morris County Democratic Committee

Dear MCDC Friends,

Greetings from Kenya!

As some of you may know, I have been out of the country since April 6th working with an organization I am passionate about called Veterinarians International, conducting charity work protecting elephants and other endangered animals. I will be happy to tell you all about it very soon.

It came to my attention yesterday that our Chair, Chip Robinson, will be resigning, I’m happy for Chip and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

However, it was presumptuous and disrespectful of Chip to speak for me and our E-Board and, quite frankly, flat out wrong. I did not and will not resign as Vice-Chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee, and I will speak with our E-board upon my return Sunday evening. I am proud of the work we have done here in Morris County since the 2021 general election, and I am dedicated to seeing that work through these historic mid-terms to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

As you all know, our Political Director Elliot Schneier and I have been working tirelessly these past 6 months to re-brand, re-organize, build structure, and support everyone and anyone in this organization who have initiatives they want to tackle. We are extremely proud of our slate of County Commissioner candidates that we have assembled this year; they are truly incredibly talented people! Starting in January, we began our MCDC U set of trainings and workshops to prepare our candidates and volunteers as best as possible. We are also overjoyed regarding our newly formed, and long overdue, Black and Progressive caucuses who both held their first meetings this past month. The State Democratic Party even decided to model their own caucuses and coalitions off the handbooks and structure myself and my team set up here in Morris County, and there are more caucuses to come! In June we have plans of introducing our new advisory board. We are hopeful for our countywide Vote by Mail initiative, which has been beautifully built by our amazing voter outreach committee. So, you see, we are just getting started!

In the weeks ahead, we will hold a special convention of the Morris County Democratic Committee. There, our committee members, will be able to vote for a replacement chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee to hold the position until our 2023 biennial reorganization meeting.

My agenda until then is quite simple: work towards getting everyone registered to vote and getting Dems elected…and of course having fun along the way!

Any questions, thoughts?
Please reach out to Elliot or myself.

Respectfully,

Robin Gurin
Vice-Chair
Morris County Democratic Committee
