AngelaCARES to Feed 1,000 Seniors for Thanksgiving

Non-profit run by Assemblywoman Angela McKnight gathers more than 250 volunteers for the effort

HUDSON COUNTY—(November 25, 2019)— AngelaCARES, a nonprofit founded by New Jersey Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D-Hudson County), is hosting the “9th Annual Thanksgiving Feed the Seniors” event on Wednesday, November 27, which will bring together more than 20 partners to provide meals for more than 1,000 elderly residents in Hudson County.

“It is amazing how many people we have that come together year over year to help provide these meals in our signature purple bags so that our seniors can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal in the comfort of their own homes,” says McKnight, who began the “Thanksgiving Feed the Seniors” event in 2011. At inception the event fed approximately 200 seniors. Today, the annual event feeds more than 1,000 seniors.

This year’s team of volunteers will assemble at Golden Door Charter School, 3044 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City on Wednesday, November 27^th from 9am to 8pm to put in a full day’s work packaging meals and making deliveries.

The food is provided by AngelaCARES through fundraising efforts held throughout the year, and meals are prepared by Andy’s Catering of Jersey City. Approximately 300 volunteers are made up of neighbors, organizations, local businesses, and schools. There are more than 20 partners this year to include The Ashford, Lutheran Senior Life at Jersey City, Community Pharmacy and Brightside Tavern.

“We have families that have been participating since their children were two and now the children help out as well,” says McKnight. “They work hard from filling up hundreds of containers of food, to notifying seniors that the food is on the way, to actually driving around and making deliveries. It is truly a whole operation,” explains McKnight.
