February 13, 2024

Ridgefield Park, NJ – 19-year-old Political Science student Askar Mirza has launched a campaign for one of Ridgefield Park’s five at-large commissioner seats.

“Ridgefield Park is hurting. Our senior citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to stay in their homes; our small businesses are collapsing under the crushing economic burdens brought on by this period of inflation, and it has become increasingly clear that our village government is either unable or unwilling to lift us out of our troubles. That is why today, I am honored to announce my candidacy for the Board of Commissioners.”

Askar has called Ridgefield Park home since 2010, where he attended Lincoln Elementary School and Ridgefield Park Jr. Sr. High School. He is a parishioner at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In his commitment to local governance, Askar serves as a county committeeman representing Ridgefield Park in the Bergen County Republican Organization.

Professionally, Askar is a member of the statewide Youth Council for the Department of Children and Families and serves as an intern at the federal humanitarian agency,
USAID. Previously, he served as a legislative intern for Assemblywoman Shama Haider in the 37th District. and as the volunteer coordinator for State Senator Holly Schepisi’s 2023 reelection campaign.

“As a Commissioner, I will fight tirelessly to cut taxes, support our small businesses, and restore a sense of pride in our village. It’s time to bring a new vision to Ridgefield Park.”
