Assemblyman Peters, Assemblywoman Stanfield to Drive Donations for Mt. Holly Homeless Shelter

LUMBERTON – Assemblyman Ryan Peters and Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield are calling on the local community to donate new socks and winter hats to help homeless people through the winter.

The 8th District Legislators are holding a donation drive at their office on 668 Main Street in Lumberton from now until Tuesday, November 10th. All donations will go to the Extended Hands Ministry in Mount Holly. The shelter provides refuge to single men and gives preference to veterans in need.

“New socks and winter hats are typically two of the most needed items for a homeless shelter and the vulnerable residents that find refuge in them.” Peters said. “With the change in weather upon us, it’s extremely important we pitch in as a community to help everyone stay warm.”

Donations can be dropped off at the office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will be a bin in the vestibule of the office for contactless dropoff.

The 8th Legislative District Legislators have held various donation drives and free meal events

since the start of the pandemic, including handing out more than 1,000 free meals and harvesting produce at local farms to give away to residents in need.

“Although the COVID pandemic has changed how we stay connected, we have to continue to be creative in how we can give back to those in their times of need” Stanfield said. “It is more important than ever to stay engaged and assist organizations that rely heavily on the generosity of others.”
