Assemblywoman McCoy Applauds Full Restoration of SNAP Benefits for New Jersey Families

(TRENTON) — Following a federal court ruling in Rhode Island ordering the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to fully fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits nationwide for the month of November, the New Jersey Department of Human Services confirmed that benefits have now been fully restored and loaded onto EBT cards for recipients across the state.

Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy (D–Mercer, Middlesex) issued the following statement:

“This afternoon’s announcement is welcome news for the thousands of New Jersey families who depend on SNAP to put food on the table. The delay in benefits caused real hardship for households already struggling with high costs, and I want to commend Commissioner Sarah Adelman and her team for acting swiftly to get these funds out the door.

Access to healthy food is not a privilege — it’s a basic necessity. I stand with the Department of Human Services in calling for consistent, timely action from the federal government to ensure this kind of disruption never happens again.”

The move comes after U.S. District Court Judge John McConnell ruled on Thursday that the USDA must disburse full November benefits to all 42 million SNAP recipients by Friday, November 7. In response, New Jersey officials moved quickly to issue payments, with recipients seeing their benefits restored by Friday morning.

Human Services Commissioner Sarah Adelman said in a statement, “This unprecedented delay left hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans without food for their families. While it shouldn’t have come to this, I am grateful for the court’s intervention requiring the federal government to reopen this necessary food assistance.”

Assemblywoman McCoy also extended appreciation to local partners across her legislative district.

“From food banks and schools to community volunteers — this week reminded us what makes New Jersey special. When families are in need, our neighbors step up. That’s the spirit we need to carry forward long after this crisis ends.”
