Bergenfield Will Close Washington Avenue to Vehicular Traffic on Saturday to Expand Outdoor Dining, Retail Options

BERGENFIELD, N.J. — After a successful launch of the “Bergenfield: Back in Business” campaign, the Borough will again temporarily close Washington Avenue to vehicular traffic on Saturday, July 25, to encourage residents to dine out and support local small businesses. The street closure will be in effect from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. between Main Street and Clinton Avenue.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted small businesses and the hospitality industry particularly hard, and now more than ever they need our continued support to stay afloat,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “Temporarily closing Washington Avenue to vehicular traffic is one way our local government can create new opportunities for local restaurants and retailers to expand their outdoor operations. I encourage all residents who have the means to do so to visit their favorite local business this weekend.”

The Borough first temporarily closed Washington Avenue last month, with hundreds of residents attending the launch of the program. Bergenfield also plans to close the same stretch of street on Saturday, August 29.
