Bhimani and Draeger to Hold Roundtable on Gun Safety

Following the tragic mass shootings that claimed more than 30 innocent lives in Gilroy, California, El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, candidates for State Assembly Lisa Bhimani and Darcy Draeger will hold a roundtable discussion on Tuesday with local activists and concerned residents to discuss common-sense gun safety measures.

“Every day we see a new headline, and new victims of senseless gun violence. We cannot let ourselves become numb or desensitized to these tragedies,” said Draeger. “Our hearts are with the people of Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton today, but thoughts and prayers are not enough. We have to hold our elected officials accountable and pass common-sense gun safety measures that will keep our communities safe.”

Concerns over gun violence strike close to home in the 25th Legislative District. In June, a man was arrested outside of an elementary school in nearby Westfield, NJ with a loaded .45-caliber handgun and 130 rounds of ammunition.

“It’s clear from Assemblyman Bucco’s record that he’s more interested in preserving his stellar score from the NRA than in protecting New Jersey residents. He’s voted against mandatory background checks for gun sales, against keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and the mentally ill, and even against establishing gun-free zones around schools,” said Bhimani. “Just last year he voted no on a law banning high capacity magazines like the one used by the shooter in Dayton.”

“Keeping our communities safe isn’t a partisan issue. If Assemblyman Bucco won’t vote right when lives are on the line, he shouldn’t be representing us in Trenton.”

The roundtable is open to the press. Inquire with the campaign for details.
