Bucco bill helping veterans access services advances

TRENTON, N.J. – Legislation making it easier for veterans to obtain county identification cards advanced today. The bill (A1249), sponsored by Assemblymen Anthony M. Bucco, was approved by the Assembly military committee with a 6-0 vote.

Veterans will no longer be required to show a DD-214 form. Alternative forms, specified by all branches of the military, will be accepted. In addition, National Guard veterans who served in other states will qualify for cards in New Jersey.

“Easing the burden of qualifying will ensure more veterans will have better access to the benefits they have earned,” said Bucco (R-Morris). “All veterans, including those who served the country in the National Guard deserve easy access to services that they can get with county veteran IDs.”

All county veteran identification cards will include the date of issuance and indicate the separation form used to prove eligibility.
