BUCCO: GOVERNOR’S TAX RELIEF PROGRAM REMINDER IS POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM AT ITS FINEST

In light of recent news that the Murphy admin is sending out letters to thousands of New Jerseyans less than two weeks before the election, Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) released the following statement:

“I have always supported meaningful property-tax relief and efforts to keep New Jersey taxpayers informed about programs they qualify for. But let’s be honest, the Murphy administration’s decision to send out mass updates and reminders about property-tax relief programs just weeks before Election Day reeks of pure politics,” said Sen. Bucco. “It’s deeply concerning to see taxpayer dollars being used in what looks like a coordinated effort to boost Democratic candidates heading into the final stretch of the campaign. Providing real relief to seniors and homeowners is important, but timing it like this, right before voters head to the polls, crosses a line between good policy and political opportunism. New Jersey residents deserve transparency and trust from their government, not election-season publicity stunts funded by their own tax dollars.”

By contrast, the Legislature abides by a 90-day blackout period before elections to avoid even the appearance of misuse of official resources for political gain.
