Caliguire & Madrid Call Drivers Licenses for Illegal Immigrants “Absolutely Ridiculous”

GOP candidates call on incumbents Zwicker and Freiman to publicly oppose A-4743

Somerville, September 10, 2019 – Responding to Governor Phil Murphy’s call to action last evening for legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to qualify for a New Jersey State Driver’s License, the 16th Legislative District Republican challengers were blunt:

“Governor Murphy called giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants a ‘no brainer’, and he’s right to the extent that you would have to be brainless to support this absolutely ridiculous idea,” said Caliguire, a former two-term Somerset County Freeholder.

“Only in Phil Murphy’s New Jersey could you require legal citizens to provide six points of identification to get a driver license, and then turn around and give one to someone who cannot produce a single piece of identification that says they are even an American citizen?”

Caliguire and Madrid said the increasingly radical liberal agenda being pushed by Trenton Democrats is an outgrowth of overwhelming one-party rule in Trenton that no longer cares about what’s best for the state, but only what pleases the far-left fringe in their party’s base.

“Andrew Zwicker and Roy Freiman have an obligation to take a stand against this legislation and stand with the majority of centrist voters in this district,” said Caliguire.  “We are calling on them to oppose it publicly and pledge to never vote for it in the State Assembly.”

“I am the mother of biracial children and believe in tolerance toward all,” said Madrid, a former Montgomery Township Mayor.  “But this isn’t about tolerance, this is about whether the rule of law matters anymore in New Jersey.  Mark and I believe it does.  What do our opponents think?”
