Christie’s Pinelands Commission Failure is Good News for Environmental Protection

TRENTON, NJ – Outgoing Governor Chris Christie’s attempt to replace Pinelands Commissioner Ed Lloyd with Ed McGlinchey was rebuffed today. The move came in response to an outpouring of calls to Senate offices from groups and individuals fighting proposals to develop fracked gas pipelines through the forest.

Food & Water Watch organizer Lena Smith released the following statement

“This was supposed to be Governor Christie’s parting gift to the fossil fuel industry–but people power stopped him. Ed Lloyd has been a champion for protecting the environment and resisting pipeline expansion in the Pinelands. That’s what made him a target for removal by the lame duck governor. But people raised their voices, and forced leaders in Trenton to respond.”
