The NJAC Convention is a premier event celebrating county government, bringing together over 500 elected and appointed officials, as well as business leaders, to address issues impacting counties and residents across the state.

The Maurice Fitzgibbons County Commissioner of the Year Award honors commissioners who go above and beyond their normal duties to support county government and NJAC. Named in memory of former Hudson County Freeholder Maurice Fitzgibbons, the award pays tribute to his exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing county governance until his passing in 2011.

Commissioner Tracy Zur has demonstrated exceptional devotion to serving the residents of Bergen County. She has been advocating tirelessly for women’s health, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Her efforts include serving on numerous panels and initiatives aimed at addressing critical community needs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner Zur led the Food Security Task Force, which later evolved into the newly created Office of Food Security. Her innovative approach and dedication have made a tremendous impact on the community, setting an example for the entire state to follow.

Commissioner Zur’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident through initiatives like the Styrofoam densifier project, which promotes recycling and reduces waste. She has also championed an energy action plan for the County, aimed at reducing their carbon footprint. Commissioner Zur has also been instrumental in launching programs like the LGBTQ+ Youth Summit and Project SEARCH, whose goal is to provide job skills training and employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Maurice Fitzgibbons County Commissioner of the Year Award. It is a privilege to serve the residents of Bergen County and to be recognized for my commitment to making a positive impact in our community,” said Commissioner Tracy Zur. “Thank you to NJAC for this prestigious honor and thank you to all my colleagues who enable us to have the supportive work environment that we do. I am excited about continuing my work to improve the quality of life for all residents of Bergen County.”

Her dedication to caring for the vulnerable, advocating for children with incarcerated parents, and championing various community-driven programs sets an exceptional standard for public service.
