Congressional candidate Goutam U. Jois vows to repeal terrible tax bill, slamming it for robbing the middle class

(Summit, NJ) – Democratic congressional candidate Goutam U. Jois on Wednesday slammed the GOP’s tax law, and their renewed efforts at another tax cut, calling it a “con job on the middle class.”

Jois, who has vowed to repeal and replace the recent GOP tax law if elected, has noted that the bill – which was rammed through by Republicans late last year – is a large giveaway to corporations and the super wealthy, and is part of Republicans’ plans to make future cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and other social safety programs.

“For a party that talks about fiscal responsibility, the GOP has done a great job of blowing up our budget and mortgaging our future so that their benefactors can get rich,” Jois said.

Additionally, the tax law would hurt nonprofits, limiting their ability to get donations from middle class families. Jois has criticized fellow Democrats for not doing more to highlight the devastating long-term consequences on American families. Nonpartisan studies have shown that New Jersey taxpayers would be among the hardest hit by the tax law starting this year.

Jois is vying to replace Leonard Lance, who, despite voting against the tax law, has not offered any solutions to help offer relief to those hit hardest by the bill. Lance is among the most vulnerable Republicans.

“Leonard Lance talks a big game, but he has not done anything to hold this administration or his fellow party members accountable,” Jois said. “What’s the point of having rank in Congress if you can’t be an effective advocate for your constituents?”

Jois has earned praise from progressives for his campaign in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, particularly his willingness to stand up to President Donald J. Trump and his scorched-earth policies. The Democratic primary is June 5. To learn more, visit www.jois2018.com.
