Congressman Sires’ Statement on the House Vote to Renew the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Albio Sires released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1327, the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act by a vote of 402 to 12:
“Today I proudly cast my vote to renew and permanently authorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. The heroes and first responders who jumped into action on September 11, 2001 without a second thought, saved countless lives that day. Many are now facing severe health problems as a result of their selflessness. This bill, championed by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), will enable survivors and first responders to continue to get assistance and compensation for decades to come. I am glad that the House could rise above partisan politics to pass this critical piece of legislation and I urge the Senate to take immediate action and send this bill to the President’s desk.”
