Corrado and Singer Bills to Honor NJ Veterans Pass Committee

Legislation sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado (R-40) and Senator Robert Singer (R-30) to aid and honor military members and their families have passed the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.

The first bill, S-2601, sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-30) and Senator Corrado, would expand the eligibility of unclaimed veterans’ spouses and their dependents to be laid to rest in local, state, or national veterans’ memorial cemeteries.

“All veterans and their families deserve to be laid to rest with dignity,” Singer said. “Knowing that there are unclaimed cremains of deceased veterans, their spouses, and their dependents sitting in funeral homes or buried without honors is particularly heartbreaking. This legislation ensures the remains of veteran’s loved ones can be claimed by a qualifying veteran’s organization so they can hold a proper burial.”

The second bill, SJR-114, sponsored by Senator Corrado designates June 12 of each year as “Women Veterans Appreciation Day.”

“From flying jets in the sky to navigating aircraft carriers in the sea, women in the military continue to play an invaluable role in defending America’s freedoms,” Corrado said. “To commemorate all women who have bravely served our country in both war and peace, it is only fitting we dedicate June 12 as ‘Women’s Veteran Appreciation Day.”
