Councilman DeFusco to Introduce Sweeping Ethics Reform Proposal

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Councilman Mike DeFusco will be introducing a comprehensive new ethics reform proposal during Wednesday’s City Council meeting to ensure taxpayer money and resources are not being misused for personal or political gain. The ordinance, cosponsored by Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, will bar any public official from using the city’s Nixel alert system to promote a political agenda and will create additional oversight to prevent city employees from performing political campaigning activities during working hours.

“Misusing taxpayer-funded government resources not only wastes taxpayers’ money, it compromises the integrity of our democracy,” said Councilman DeFusco. “Our city government and employees should be exclusively focused on delivering the best, most efficient services possible for our residents, not on political advancement. This legislation is essential to begin restoring a sense of accountability in our city government and it will help all residents have confidence that every one of their tax dollars are being used properly and responsibly.”
