Cruz-Perez Statement on the State’s Plan to Join Federal Lawsuit Challenging Trump’s DACA Policies
TRENTON – Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez (D-Camden/Gloucester) today issued the following statement on the state’s plan to join 15 states and the District of Columbia to protect the rights of recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“I welcome the announcement of Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal that New Jersey will join the 15 states and the District of Columbia in the lawsuit challenging Trump’s anti-immigrant policies and to protect our Dreamers. The consequence of the president’s impulsive decision is that approximately 800,000 Dreamers who came out of the shadows will ultimately lose their protections. Although immigration is a federal issue, it is really a local issue here in New Jersey because it affects so many of our friends, families, neighbors and co-workers. We as a state must stand up to Trump’s vicious immigration policies and protecting Dreamers from deportation is what this country and New Jersey must do.”
