CWA Condemns Family Separations and Indefinite Detention Policy

“The Communications Workers of America condemns the Trump Administration’s cruel and inhumane policy of separating children from their families at the U.S. border. While President Trump’s executive order puts a stop to these separations for the time being, it also directs immigration officials to detain families indefinitely — another inhumane practice.

“CWA has long supported comprehensive immigration reform to fix our broken immigration system. Such reform should include a roadmap to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, an end to programs that encourage the exploitation of immigrant workers and protection for immigrants covered under the DACA program.

“Terrorizing families is not the answer. We call on the administration to immediately reunite families and on the Republican congressional leadership to get serious about passing immigration reform that strengthens our country by protecting all working people.”
