DAVID MARELLA OF GIBBONS PC SELECTED TO FORBES “30 UNDER 30” LIST

(NEWARK – November 15, 2018)  David J. Marella, an associate in the Corporate Department at Gibbons P.C., has been selected to the Forbes “30 Under 30” list for 2019.

Since 2012, the Forbes “30 Under 30” list has recognized the brightest entrepreneurs, innovators, and game-changing professionals under the age of 30 in the United States, Europe, and Asia. The 600 business and industry figures on the U.S. “30 Under 30” list are broken down into 20 categories with 30 honorees each. Mr. Marella, who rejoined Gibbons earlier this year, was selected for the Law & Policy category, based on his service on the President’s Commission on Combatting Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, as well as his reliance on that experience upon his return to Gibbons to advise major pharmaceutical companies, health systems, and rehabilitation facilities on issues related to the opioid crisis, with a particular focus on the federal response and federal grant funding.

The President’s Commission, established by executive order in early 2017, operates within the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in the Executive Office of the President. The bipartisan President’s Committee, chaired by then-New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, was tasked with studying the scope and effectiveness of the federal response to the opioid crisis and making recommendations to President Donald J. Trump for improving that response. As Advisor to the Executive Director of the President’s Commission, Mr. Marella was a key member of the team addressing the historic health crisis, advising then-Governor Christie and collaborating with officials from the White House, the Departments of Health and Human Services, Justice, Labor, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs, and the National Security Council. Through Mr. Marella’s work, President Trump declared the crisis a public health emergency.

In his broader practice at Gibbons, Mr. Marella represents public and private companies, financial institutions, and governmental agencies in connection with mergers and acquisitions, stock and asset purchase transactions, corporate governance matters, credit facilities, public finance, contract drafting, cross-border transactions, and general corporate matters.
