Assembly Transportation Committee to Consider Legislation Designating a portion of Interstate Highway Route 195 in Mercer County as “Francis J. McManimon Highway”

 

(TRENTON) – Legislation strengthening elections security in New Jersey, continuing the discussion on cybersecurity, a bill requiring installation of emergency power generators to ensure power for senior housing during storms, mandating students with concussion be evaluated before returning to school, and educating parents on resources for deaf children are a few of the measures Assembly committees will review on Thursday.

Also on the agenda: a bill expanding existing law to make it a crime to commit acts of sexual penetration with a student who is between 18 and 20 years old; a measure looping in certain armed security officers under the “Detective Melvin Vincent Santiago’s Law; and legislation that allows a resident to receive lifetime emergency assistance under certain circumstances.

The Assembly Women and Children Committee will hear testimony from invited speakers on the affordability and accessibility of child care and early education in New Jersey.

The Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee will receive testimony on the potential devastation by the Spotted Lanternfly, an invasive species from Asia, which first appeared in New Jersey this summer.

The Assembly State and Local Government Committee will receive testimony from a representative from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and/or the Division of Elections in the Department of State regarding cyber security concerns relating to New Jersey’s election process.
