Essex County Delegation Endorses Mayor Ras Baraka in Mayoral Race

Newark, N.J. – Today, the Essex County State Legislative Delegation, announced they are endorsing Mayor Ras J. Baraka in Newark’s mayoral race.

“Ras is a leader for all Newarkers” said Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones. “In a political climate that has been driven and defined by fear tactics and divisive attacks, I am proud to stand with Ras Baraka – someone who is committed to advancing and growing our communities.”

“As a Newark resident, I have seen firsthand how Ras has fought to protect the rights of immigrants and their families in this city” said State Senator M. Teresa Ruiz. “He is a fearless leader who continues to be a bold advocate for our city in Trenton. I am proud to support the Mayor in his bid for re-election.”

“As a Newark Principal, Ras vigorously fought for our children to have an environment that allows them to thrive in the classroom” said Assemblyman Ralph Caputo. “As the city prepares to regain local control, I am proud to stand with Ras as he continues to get real results for our community.”

“Mayor Ras Baraka has been a proven friend for working families,” said Assemblyman Thomas Giblin. “He advocated for a higher minimum wage, family leave policies and fairness in the city’s collective bargaining agreements.”

“As a voice for all Newark families, Ras is someone who will stand up to the injustices that plague our inner cities” said Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor-Marin. “Newark deserves progressive leadership, which is why I wholeheartedly endorse Ras in the race for Mayor in Newark.”
