ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDERS HONOR

THE MONTCLAIR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM

 

(Newark, NJ) – The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored the Montclair High School Football Team for winning the 2017 NJSIAA North 1, Group 5 State Championship during a special presentation at the Hall of Records on December 14, 2017. On Friday, December 1, 2017, the Mounties defeated Union City (35-14) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, to win the title.

 

Montclair native and newly elected Board President Brendan W. Gill, Freeholder At-Large Patricia Sebold, and District 4 Freeholder Leonard M. Luciano presented the team with Commendations for completing its record-breaking season. During the presentation, Head Coach John Fiore accepted the Commendation on behalf of the team, thanking the Board for its encouragement.

 

During their season, the Montclair High School Football Team defeated the following teams: Passaic Tech (49-7), Livingston (41-0), Union City (22-7), East Orange (44-16), Morristown (56-21), West Orange (48-7), Seton Hall Prep (63- 44), Columbia (56-0), Livingston (63-6), Ridgewood (49-14), and Bloomfield (49-13). The Mounties finished its season with a (12-0-0) record, earning its fourth sectional title win in six years. The team has won eight sectional championships since the NJSIAA instituted playoffs in 1974 and has appeared in 20 championship games, all of which have occurred in the last 36 seasons.

 

The team is comprised of the following players: Seniors: Daniel Webb, Aziz Henderson, Michael Herring, Malik Jaire Gray, Danny Banks, DJ Williams, Tarrin Earle, Colin Callahan, Harry Wiley, John Auletta, Elias Ottens, Antwain Hutchinson, Tysean Williams, Kristian Woods, Matt Niemann, Kyle Lawson, Nahum Jukes, Finn Jensen, Sheldon Bryan, Kahreem Paul, Marcus Crowell, Jaiquan Latta, and Alex-Jaron Holland; Juniors: Josh Crawford, Walter King, Steven Rose, Amarae Witter, Charles Murphy, Prince Pittman, Wade Korbel, Amir Hutchins, Willie Matthews, Terrel Santana, J’Von Myles, Matt Moore, Gary Robinson, Jr., Robert ‘Bo’ Bigelow, Nasir Thompson-Wyatt, Shamar Alston, Matt Battle, Alejandro Dagnino, Kevin Zaccareo, Jeikson Boyle, and Jacob Manthey; Sophomores: A.J. Zaccareo, Zachary Lepak, Max Jennings, Nate Bryan, Kyshawn King, Donivon Bell, Teddy Sweetwood, Makai Harris, Shawn Collins, Nareece Wright, Sebastien Fortune, Sebastian Garda, Patrick Barr, Shannon Kirkley, Juwan Augustin, and Sebastian Thomas; and Freshmen: Ryan Phariss, Michael Robinson, Jordan Diggs, Abdullah Hamiltom, Donovan Walton, Jeremiah Davis, Rafael Dagnino, Elijah Dawson, William Van Horn, Justin Kirkley, and Amaur Hayes.

 

In addition to Head Coach John Fiore, the team was led by the following: Defensive Coordinator Jamie Bittner, Offensive Coordinator Patrick Leonardis, Special Teams Coordinator and Co-Defensive Coordinator Pete Ramiccio, Defensive Line and Tight End Coach Daniel Roberts, Offensive Line and Defensive Line Coach Vinny Pelli, Offensive Line and Defensive Line Coach Eugene Kline, Running Back and Linebacker Coach Henry Wilson, Quality Control Robert Ferraro, Quarterback Coach Michael Maffucci, Running Back and Linebacker Coach Anthony Maffucci, Running Back Defensive Back Coach Aubrey Lewis, III, Head Freshmen Coach Jeff Lawton, Freshmen Coach Vinny Maffucci, Freshman Coach DeAndre Smith, Freshmen Defensive Coordinator Garland Thorton, and Freshmen Offensive Coordinator Michael Kornegay.

 

The football team also received administrative support from Superintendent Barbara Pinsak, Principal James N. Earle, and Athletic Director Michael Miello.
