Food & Water Action Endorses Reed Gusciora in Trenton Mayoral Runoff
Gusciora will advocate for stronger, publicly controlled Trenton Water Works
Food & Water Action, the political lobbying arm of the national advocacy group Food & Water Watch, is endorsing Reed Gusciora for mayor of Trenton ahead of the June 12th runoff election.
The following statement was released by Food & Water Action Senior Organizer and Policy Advocate Lena Smith:
“We are supporting Assemblyman Gusciora because he is a champion for the right to clean drinking water for all people in Trenton. The next mayor will be responsible for addressing chronic understaffing and water quality issues at Trenton Water Works. Reed Gusciora will fight to protect Trenton’s water from corporate takeover and work to return democratic control to the city of Trenton.
“Over the past year, Trenton Water Works has had numerous water quality violations. And last fall, the Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Community Affairs told the city to enter a water privatization contract. This type of deal is a backdoor way for a corporation to begin to seize control of Trenton’s water system, which would weaken public transparency and accountability and fail to address the real issues with Trenton Water Works.
“In addition to his commitment to a strong, publicly-controlled water system, Gusciora has been an environmental leader in the legislature, sponsoring legislation to ban fracking, fracking waste and transition New Jersey off fossil fuels and towards a 100% clean energy future.”
