Food & Water Watch Congratulates Reed Gusciora on Election Victory

As mayor, Gusciora will advocate for keeping Trenton Water Works under public control

After Reed Gusciora’s victory in today’s runoff election for mayor of Trenton, Food & Water Watch Senior Organizer and Policy Advocate Lena Smith released this statement:

“Reed Gusciora has long been a champion for the right to clean drinking water for all. As the next mayor of Trenton, he will fight to protect Trenton’s water from corporate takeover and work to return democratic control to the city. Trenton should move aggressively to hire in-house expertise and to end the Christie-era arrangement with the state that is the source of many of the current problems.”

“The city has long been under pressure from the state to pursue privatization of Trenton Water Works. Reed Gusciora has been clear that he does not support this approach, and we expect him to hold to his commitment to a transparent and democratic public water system.”

Gusciora’s candidacy was endorsed by Food & Water Action, the political lobbying arm of Food & Water Watch.
