GOP Chair Jesal Amin asks Councilman Wendell “Please clarify as to when you voted “NO” against Summerhill.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

East Brunswick, NJ- East Brunswick GOP Chairman Jesal Amin issued the following statement asking Councilman Wendell to clarify exactly when he means when he says he voted ‘NO’ against high density COAH apartments on Summerhill and Old Stage, as you state in your recent mail piece?

According to the township website archives, Jim Wendell voted ‘YES’ in support of the affordable housing plan at least three times in 2016, both in his capacity as a member of the planning board and as a member of the township council.

• On May 9, 2016, he voted in support of the affordable housing settlement as a member of the council.
• On May 18, 2016, he voted in support of an update to the affordable housing settlement as a member of the planning board.
• On November 14, 2016 he voted yes on approving the zoning change.

Chairman Amin stated:

“The residents of East Brunswick deserve an answer to a simple question, when exactly did Councilman Wendell vote against the high density housing development at Summerhill Rd. I count at least four votes that paved the way for high density housing here, in East Brunswick. Camille Clark, Curt Philipczak and Dhar Khona have provided steadfast opposition to high density housing since day one and continue to do so in light of the new application by the developer which requires 25 new variances.

And IF you in fact voted against the high rise, high density apartments at the corner of Summerhill and Old Stage, why, on October 22, 2018, did you vote to re-confirm the same zoning change to include businesses on the first floor without removing the high density housing component when Councilwoman Camille Clark voted ‘NO’ and asked for the vote to be tabled for further discussion?”
