Gottheimer Doubles Down on Need to Reinstate SALT at Tax Prep Event for Local Seniors & Lower-Income Families

NEWTON, NJ – Today, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) visited a Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) tax prep event where volunteers helped local seniors and lower-income families in Newton with their taxes ahead of Tax Day. Gottheimer heard from filers about the impact of last year’s Tax Hike Bill and the crushing loss of the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction on home owners. Gottheimer also heard about how complicated tax returns have become. This program saves taxpayers at least $275 on their tax preparation

“I appreciate the work of the volunteers here today, helping our seniors and others with their tax preparation,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Here in New Jersey, we need to cut taxes for families and businesses, so we can make living here more affordable. The first step at the federal level will be reinstating the SALT deduction, to end double taxation, something I’m working on with Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin. We need to get that done.”
