GOTTHEIMER EARNS ENDORSEMENT OF GARDEN STATE EQUALITY
In His First Term, Gottheimer Has Worked Across the Aisle to Fight Back Against LGBTQ Bullying, Legal Discrimination, and Inequality
ASBURY PARK, N.J. – On Saturday, October 13, 2018, Josh Gottheimer joined LGBTQ leaders, elected officials, and members of the community at Garden State Equality’s 9th-Annual Equality Walk in Asbury Park. There Garden State Equality’s Executive Director Christian Fuscarino announced Garden State Equality’s endorsement of Gottheimer’s re-election campaign.
“We are proud to throw our support behind Josh Gottheimer for Congress. He is an ally that we need to represent us in Washington, and he supports our values,” said Garden State Equality’s Executive Director Christian Fuscarino.
“Thank you Josh for all you’ve done, and I’m happy to endorse you. I think you’re a wonderful Congressman. Your predecessor really did us wrong. Thank you for stepping up and really leading the charge for LGBT people,” said Garden State Equality Board Member and former President of the New Jersey State Bar Association Thomas Prol.
“It’s a huge honor to receive the support of Garden State Equality and its 150,000 members across New Jersey,” said Josh Gottheimer. “Here in New Jersey, we know that tolerance is not the same as respect, and I am proud to partner with this critical organization to fight back against bullying, legal discrimination, and inequality. Ending discrimination is not a Republican or Democratic issue, it’s a good for America issue. It’s a good for the economy issue. And it’s a good for Jersey issue.”
In addition to Garden State Equality, Gottheimer also received the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), which represents more than three million members and supporters nationwide. In Congress, Gottheimer is a member of the bipartisan LGBT Equality Caucus and introduced the bipartisan Freedom from Discrimination in Credit Act to prohibit credit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Gottheimer is also a co-sponsor of the Equality Act, a bipartisan bill that would amend existing civil rights laws to include non-discrimination protections for members of the LGBTQ community.
