Gottheimer Hosts Mayor’s Round Table

Talks Clawing Back Grant from Moocher States, Storm Preparedness, SALT, and Working Together to Lower Taxes

PARAMUS, NJ – On Monday, February 25, 2019, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) convened a mayor’s roundtable to discuss local issues and hear from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the LESO program at Bergen County Community College. Participants discussed solutions to strengthen local communities including reinstating the State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT), clawing back to New Jersey more federal grants from the Moocher States, and helping firefighters and law enforcement protect our communities from criminals, Lone Wolf Terrorists and fires.

The meeting also featured presentations on storm preparedness from Devin Kerins from FEMA and on the 1033 program from Lieutenant Brian Trexler, where mayors heard about the current opportunities available to help their communities lower taxes and increase safety.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) said, “I appreciate all of the mayors coming out today to share their ideas and commitment to solving problems together.  Whether it is clawing back more money from Moocher States for our first responders to help get our taxes down or handling emergencies, I am grateful to work with such a committed and energetic group of mayors, elected officials, and first responders.  They are on the front lines and I know that our community is in good hands.”
