Gottheimer to Serve NJ on Financial Services Subcommittees

Gottheimer Wins Seats on National Security, Capital Markets, and Diversity Subcommittees

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced that, in his service to New Jersey on the Financial Services Committee, he was selected to sit on three key Subcommittees: National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy; Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets; and Diversity and Inclusion. Gottheimer is the only Member of the New Jersey delegation serving on the Financial Services Committee.

The Subcommittee on National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy is responsible for efforts to crack down on and disrupt the financing of foreign terrorist organizations like ISIS, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda, as well as homegrown lone-wolf terrorism. Gottheimer introduced the “Freezing Assets of Suspected Terrorists and Enemy Recruits” (FASTER) Act to help fight terror by disrupting the financing of suspected terrorists. The Subcommittee also has jurisdiction over international development and investment, as well as important financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Export-Import Bank, and the Federal Reserve.

The Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets has jurisdiction over U.S. securities and housing finance laws and oversees the governmental entities authorized to implement and enforce these laws, including the Securities and Exchange Commission. The newly- established Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion has jurisdiction over all matters related to diversity within the Financial Services Committee, as well as a responsibility to promote financial and economic inclusion for all consumers.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Financial Services Committee to help lower taxes, cut burdensome regulations for large and small businesses alike, and expand access to capital while protecting consumers and fighting terrorism,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I will work across the aisle to help New Jersey’s families and businesses thrive.”
