Governor Murphy Praises Cease and Desist Letter to Ghost Gun Manufacturers
“Time and again, Congress has failed to deliver real gun safety legislation for the people of this country,” said Governor Murphy. “New Jersey refuses to stand idly by and will take aggressive actions on its own. The cease and desist measures launched by Attorney General Grewal today are a critical step to end the purchase of do-it-yourself firearms from internet merchants by individuals who cannot legally buy firearms on their own.”
“As New Jersey strengthens its efforts to keep guns from dangerous people and tighten regulations on gun traffickers, a dark side of the gun industry is taking hold on the Internet,” said Adam Skaggs, Chief Counsel of Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “We applaud Governor Murphy and Attorney General Grewal for ensuring that New Jersey’s strong gun laws are enforced effectively and holding the scofflaw merchants in this dangerous online marketplace accountable. Giffords Law Center and our partners in the FACT coalition will support New Jersey’s continuing leadership on gun violence as the Garden State provides the nation a model for responsible leadership on gun safety.”
“Once again Governor Murphy and our Attorney General have been delivering on their commitment to take aggressive actions to protect New Jerseyans against dangerous and illegal firearms,” said William Castner, Senior Advisor to the Governor on Firearms.” The ghost gun industry needs to be — and will be — closed for business in the Garden State.”
Attorney General Grewal sent cease and desist letters to ghost gun manufacturing companies, informing them that their actions violate New Jersey law and demanding they end activity within 15 days, or be subject to legal action by the State of New Jersey.
