Hamilton Councilwoman Ileana Schirmer sent out the following email to supporters regarding Governor-elect Murphy’s selection of Assemblywoman Liz Muoio for state Treasurer:

Dear Friend,

Have you heard the troublesome news about Phil Murphy’s nominee for State Treasurer? He wants to put Democrat insider, Mercer County Assemblywoman Liz Muoio into the job of being the chief principle charged with managing the state’s budget and collecting taxes.

I’m a Councilwoman in Hamilton, the first ever female Hispanic elected official in Mercer County and former business owner, I can tell you first-hand that if there is one thing Liz Muoio is good at, it’s raising taxes! Since she was appointed to the position of Director of Economic Development in Mercer County, the county portion of our tax bill in Hamilton has gone up by over 15%! That’s over $7,000,000 more in taxes! As Assemblywoman she has supported tax increase after tax increase.

New Jersey’s tax burden is breaking our backs and I’m really worried that Liz Muoio, who has a track record of tax increases and questionable dealings with the Mercer County Sports and Entertainment Commission non-profit, will continue her record of increasing taxes without the slightest concern for the tax payers.
