Hamm: Booker drops out of forum hosted by The National Coalition OF 100 Black Women with Lawrence Hamm to host own event at same time

We are very sorry to announce that Senator Cory Booker will not be attending the forum being hosted by The National Coalition of 100 Black Women today where he would face his primary challenger, grassroots organizer, and activist Lawrence Hamm. Yesterday we were made aware that Senator Booker had planned a last-minute virtual town hall at the same time as the forum after his campaign accepted the invitation to attend.

On Tuesday, June 9th we were made aware late in the evening that Senator Booker would not be attending the forum. Yesterday at Noon an email had started to go out to the Senator’s supporters that he was hosting a virtual town hall at the same time as the forum after his deputy campaign manager had acknowledged the invitation to the forum being hosted this evening. They had relayed the Senator’s interest in attending tonight’s forum. Please keep in mind that this town hall hosted by Senator Booker was not advertised before Noon yesterday.

We are very upset by Senator Booker’s action. We find it more than coincidental that Senator Booker drops out of the forum at the last minute and creates his own event at exactly the same time, right after Lawrence Hamm receives a surge of national media attention for his leadership during the George Floyd demonstrations. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women had spent weeks planning this event. Senator Booker had only expressed interest in attending after 2 weeks of protest had happened in his own city, and after Mr. Hamm’s primary challenge was starting to gain national press attention.

Lawrence Hamm has repeatedly challenged Senator Booker to debate him on the issues that face New Jersey during his weekly town halls with no response from Senator Booker’s camp. This forum would have been the first time that voters could have seen both candidates side by side who are vying
for the Democratic nomination for the US Senate for the state of New Jersey. We are disappointed that the voters will now not have this chance.
