Legislators Respond to MVC Providing ID Cards to Soon-to-Be Released Prisoners

Another decision made by Governor Murphy that favors soon-to-be released prisoners over law abiding citizens allows for the Motor Vehicle Commission to set up mobile agencies in Trenton to help these individuals obtain identification cards. Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano of the 10th Legislative District have released the following statement blasting the Governor for his agenda that they believe defies all logic.

“We have received hundreds of complaints from our constituents who have had to miss work and rearrange their schedules just to wait in line for hours on end at the MVC,” stated the Legislators. “However, prisoners are awarded special treatment and are able to obtain ID cards with no hassle. This is an absolute disgrace to our law-abiding citizens who have been patient with the MVC process since the beginning of the Governor’s extended shutdowns.”

The MVC has temporarily set up two mobile units to process non-driver identification cards for prisoners about to be re-entered into society.  The prisoners who will be released in the coming weeks are being transported by bus to the Department of Corrections Central Reception and Assignment Facility in Trenton to receive their ID cards.

“When the MVC finally reopened after months of shutdowns by Governor Murphy, we saw hundreds of people lined up for hours in the hot summer sun and torrential rain,” said the Legislators.  “Our Governor’s priorities are misaligned and he is playing favorites with prisoners while our constituents get short sided by his endless executive orders.”
