Hugin Stands with Trump and Polluters
There are clear differences between the two candidates that are running for U.S Senate. Senator Menendez is a proven, steadfast environmental champion, fighting to protect the health of New Jersey’s environment and the well-being of New Jersey families. On the other hand, Bob Hugin will side with polluters and special interests over the environment. As a Senator, Hugin will just do whatever Donald Trump wants when it comes to dismantling environmental protections. Hugin will have a terrible environmental record.
“Bob Hugin is in lockstep with Trump and corporate polluters. He opposes important programs that help reduce our greenhouse gases and impact on climate change. He sides with climate denier and believes that the U.S should have backed out of the Paris Agreement even though New Jersey has been devastated by climate change,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “The people of New Jersey want to fight climate change but Bob Hugin will only make our climate problem worse. When it comes to the environment, Hugin will be an environmental disaster.”
Instead of protecting our lungs and environment, he supports Trump’s rollbacks for important protections on our clean air. Hugin’s polluter friendly policies will add more pollution in the environment and affect the people in New Jersey. Hugin’s policies will undermine green jobs and attack our health at the same time.
“Hugin will do whatever the Fossil Fool in the White House wants. His future for New Jersey and the nation is more drilling on public land, and more dirty fuel infrastructure. Hugin’s support on rollbacks to clean air will mean more carcinogenic toxins in our air and higher levels of asthma, especially in our children. Supporting roll backs on protections for wetlands will mean more toxic chemicals in our waterways and more flooding. Hugin’s support for rollbacks on clean water means more harmful contaminates in our drinking water,” said Tittel.
We will see more toxic pollution in communities because Hugin does not support the Reauthorize Superfund taxes. This means sites with toxic chemicals will not be cleaned up and instead will contaminate our groundwater and critical drinking water.
“Bob Hugin’s name last should really be pronounced Bob Hugg’n because he is really Bob Huggin’ Trump because he will do whatever Trump wants. Hugin will go along with Trump’s policies on having harmful pesticides on the market that is especially harmful to children and pregnant woman,” said Tittel. “Hugin’s policies will lead to more toxic chemicals in environment and lead to higher cancer rates. This could benefit Celgene, which sells cancer drugs at inflated prices.”
In a town hall meeting this past month, Bob Hugin said that if he were in the Senate now, he’d be inclined to support Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, providing there’s no “troubling” information in an FBI report. Meanwhile Hugin’s opponent, Bob Menendez, opposes Kavanaugh. Earlier this week, in a Q&A Interview by NJBiz, Hugin came out against the Paris Agreement.
“By standing up for Kavanaugh, Hugin is turning his back on the people of New Jersey and this entire country. Bob Hugin’s support of Kavanaugh embraces his judicial philosophy of siding with corporate power and polluters over people and the environment. As a judge on the U.S Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit, Kavanaugh has consistently sided with polluters over the best interest of the public and the agencies charged with protecting the public’s health, welfare, and the environment” said Tittel. “Kavanaugh will zealously go forward with attacks of the Trump Administration and Bob Hugin supports it.”
New Jersey and the nation need a Senator who will stand up for the people, not turn their back on them. Senator Menendez has been an environmental champion for 3 decades. From blocking offshore drilling off the Jersey Shore to cleaning up toxic sites.
“Senator Menendez been an environmental champion for over 30 years. He has stood up to Trump and Republicans in the Senate to protect our environment, public health, and green jobs. Menendez is considered a champion for reducing greenhouse gases, cleaning up Superfund sites, and promoting a clean energy economy. He has consistently helped lead the fight against Trump’s war on the environment,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “Senator Menendez will stand up and protect our health and our children’s health from corporate polluters and Trump’s rollbacks on environmental protections.”
