Independent Monitor Peter Harvey to Host Community Forum on Consent Decree Fourth Quarterly Report

WHEN: June 25 from 5:30 to 7:45 PM

WHERE: Training, Recreation and Education Center located at 55 Ludlow St. in Newark, New Jersey

On June 25, Peter Harvey, Independent Monitor of the Newark Police Division, and the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice will host a community forum to discuss the Independent Monitor’s Fourth Quarterly Report. The conversation will occur from 5:30 to 7:45 pm at the Training, Recreation and Education Center located at 55 Ludlow St. in Newark, New Jersey.

Each Quarterly Report is meant to serve as a status update on the Consent Decree process, one way of keeping Newark residents up to date on the NPD’s ongoing police reforms. The Fourth Quarterly Report, released on May 4, 2018, by Independent Monitor Peter Harvey and the Independent Monitoring Team, covers the reporting period from October 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. The Report outlines, among other things, the Monitor’s assessment of the Newark Police Division’s progress toward the goals and requirements of the Consent Decree.  Please read the Fourth Quarterly Report here.

In 2016, a federal court approved a panel of experts — led by Harvey — to serve as the Independent Monitoring Team of the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Police Division, in accordance with a settlement reached between the Department of Justice and the City of Newark.
