Indivisible Project Launches 5-Figure Ad Buy Urging Constituents to Hold Rep. Josh Gottheimer Accountable

Josh Gottheimer led the fight to give Donald Trump another blank check to continue terrorizing immigrant families. 

Washington, DC—Today, the Indivisible Project, released two digital ads in New Jersey focused on Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, drawing attention to his recent power play which gave Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funding to expand their detention camps and ramp up their deportation activities.

“Rep. Gottheimer is one of the leading House Democrats fighting to fund Trump’s deportation machine. His constituents don’t like that. We’re joining them in calling him out,”  said Ezra Levin, co-executive director of the Indivisible Project.

The ads highlight Gottheimer’s work with the “Problem Solvers Caucus,” a bipartisan group of members of Congress organized to undermine Democratic priorities in the House of Representatives. Most notably, Gottheimer led efforts to pass legislation to give ICE and CBP millions more to continue terrorizing immigrant families without guardrails or safeguards.

The accountability ad buys are a first for the Indivisible Project,  which was founded in early 2017. The 5-figure digital spend targets Rep. Gottheimer’s constituents across social media platforms to educate them about his work to give millions more to ICE. The ads also urge constituents to call Gottheimer and demand he cut funding for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in this September’s budget fight.

But the only problem they solved was how to write Donald Trump another blank check to continue terrorizing immigrant families. It was Gottheimer who led the charge in the House to pass Mitch McConnell’s border bill, which gave Trump billions more to expand detention camps, children jails, and even to hire more ICE agents.

A bill that immigration groups working at the border say would hurt more than it helps. With no guardrails. With no oversight. With no protections for children. A bill that passed with mostly Republican votes.

With his backroom maneuvering, Josh Gottheimer gave Donald Trump billions more to continue his racist agenda. Instead of fighting for the safety and well being of immigrant children, Josh fought to further endanger their lives.
