Jersey City Residents Now Have Full Access to Obtaining Birth Records after Scheme on County-level
After nearly 15 years of having to waste Time and Money traveling to Trenton, Residents can now Obtain Birth Certificates directly from Jersey City’s Clerk’s Office
What: Local and State officials will come together to announce Jersey City now has the ability to provide vital identification documents directly from the City’s Clerk’s Office in City Hall, without delay or additional costs.
The service will be provided nearly 15 years after the Hudson County Vital Statistics Office was shut down following the investigation into a scheme to create and sell fraudulent birth records uncovered wrongdoing. As a result, State official determined all birth certificates issued by the Hudson County Office were invalid. All operations within the County Office ceased since 2004, requiring anyone born in Jersey City to obtain the documents through Trenton, burdening residents with wasted travel time and additional costs.
With this announcement, Jersey City will now alleviate the additional burdens of spending extra time and money to obtain these vital documents.
