Kean fundraises for Candidate who shared White Supremacist content

(Bridgewater, NJ) — Even as white supremacists incite violence across America, this weekend Tom Kean Jr. fundraised for a local candidate who has shared racist, homophobic, and misogynistic content from a white supremacist Facebook account.

On Saturday, Kean was a special guest at a fundraiser for Garwood Council candidate Jesse Wilson. Wilson is infamous locally for sharing content on Facebook community pages ridiculing protests over the death of George Floyd, calling “white guilt” the “new virus in America”, and stoking fear of white slavery using content from a white supremacist Facebook account. Under the pseudonym “Jerome Biggums,” Wilson shared a homophobic, transphobic and sexist screed, denied the existence of hate speech, and criticized local efforts to combat hate online as “butt hurt community members [sic] complaints.”

Kean Jr. has refused interviews for fear of questions about President Trump’s policies. He’s spent months rewriting his record on LGBTQ and civil rights. Now behind closed doors and out of the public eye, he’s embraced the most extreme and hate-filled fringe of his party just to earn  a local endorsement.

“The very same week white supremacists promoted violence across America, Tom Kean Jr. was fundraising for a white supremacist right here in New Jersey,” said Daniel Fleiss, Malinowski for Congress Campaign Manager. “This is who he is, and more important it’s not who we are. Tom Kean is willing to sell us out to the most vile racists, sexists and homophobes if it means an endorsement to boost his political career.”

“Hateful ideologies flourish when people like Tom Kean Jr. validate instead of condemning them,” said Congressman Tom Malinowski. “In the House, I’ve worked with Republicans and Democrats to combat white supremacy and hate-filled ideologies on the right and left. Someone who embraces their proponents has no place in Congress.”
