LEONIA COUNCILWOMAN BERNADETTE FLAIM

WILL SEEK RE-ELECTION

LEONIA, NJ (February 20, 2019)—Leonia Councilwoman Bernadette Flaim announced her intention to seek a third term in the Borough’ municipal elections in November.

Flaim, a Democrat who was first elected to the Borough council in November 2013, said she was deeply committed to her mission of uniting Leonia’s residents to work toward common goals, and to helping navigate Leonia through a continued period of progress, opportunity and positive change.

“My time on the Borough council has filled me with hopeful enthusiasm and optimism for Leonia’s future,” Flaim said. “I am looking forward to exciting things to come, and to working closely with Leonia’s residents, as well as Mayor Zeigler and all members of the Borough Council, to continue our success in moving our town forward,” she said.

I will work collaboratively to educate the community on significant issues and invite wide participation in finding creative solutions,” Flaim said. I understand that ‘change’ is crucial in order for the community to grow and thrive, but I also critically understand the value and importance of preserving Leonia’s special character,” she said.

Councilwoman Flaim currently serves on the Police and Fire Committee and chairs the Finance and Human Resources Committee. Prior to her election to Council, she served on Leonia’s planning board.

Flaim and her husband, Stephan, settled in Leonia twenty years ago to raise their two sons, Thomas and William, and continue to devote their lives in Leonia to community service.  Flaim served six years as Chair of Leonia Middle School and High School Home & School Association and three years as chair of the Leonia High School Music Boosters. She and Stephan have been active in Boy Scouts for 18 years, where Flaim served as committee chair of Pack 191 and later held the same position for Troop 71, while Stephan served as cubmaster and scoutmaster. She is an active member of the music ministry at St. John the Evangelist.

“My family’s decision to move to Leonia twenty years ago was the result of a deliberate search,” Flaim said. “We wanted to find a home and community where we could enjoy the warmth and character of a small town.  Leonia proved to be exactly what we were looking for and we have always celebrated our choice, for us as well as our two adult sons, Thomas and William,” Flaim said.

Flaim is the owner and Principal Designer of The Flaim Group LLC – Home Staging & Interiors and the owner and founder of ReadyStageMove™, and has been widely recognized throughout the design and real estate industry for her work advancing women’s entrepreneurship. She served for five years as the president of the Real Estate Staging Association, New Jersey Chapter, and as the vice president of marketing and corporate relations for the Bergen County Chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners. She is the recipient of the NJAWBO 2012 Beacon of Light Award, was named the 2011 Real Estate Staging Association State President of the Year, and recognized as the 2009 NJAWBO Business Woman of the Year.

Prior to entrepreneurship, Flaim spent 15 years in the executive recruiting industry.

Flaim is running on a Democratic ticket with fellow incumbents, Leonia Mayor Judah Zeigler and Councilman William Ziegler.
