Lopez Praises Continuation of Puerto Rico Relief Efforts

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement on Friday following the Governor’s signing of the revision of the reciprocity process for out-of-state professionals into law.

“In the great State of New Jersey, I am proud to say that we have made every attempt to minimize the difficulties that Puerto Rican evacuees have encountered in other states. We created initiatives to assist evacuees, and thanks to the New Jersey Commission on Puerto Rico Relief, we remain focused on ensuring that evacuees can make New Jersey their home.

“One step in ensuring that evacuees can succeed in New Jersey is making sure that Puerto Rican professionals and their credentials are valid in the state. Prior to my being elected, I met with many professionals that were eager to get back to work, but could not do so because of the reciprocity law for out-of-State professional and occupational licenses. From these conversations, I made it my first priority to sign on to A-1531 as one of the prime sponsors.

Today, I am proud that New Jersey continues to lead as an example with the signing of A-1531, which revises the reciprocity law and will make life a bit easier for our Puerto Rican professionals who want to contribute and thrive in this state.”
