Lt. Governor Oliver Statement on the announcement of retirement by Senator Weinberg
Senator Loretta Weinberg has been a vociferous voice for the people of New Jersey for almost 3 decades. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude and admiration for the work she has done to promote equality, justice and serve the underserved in our state.
I proudly stood by Senator Weinberg’s side in the Assembly and worked with her on countless measures in the name of transparency, accountability, equality, and open public records. I can think of no other single person in our state who has committed their life to public service like she has. She is a legendary reformer toppling corruption. She is a compassionate woman and mother who listens to and supports other women. She has advocated for the LGBTQ community, fought for equal pay for women, increased access to health care for mothers, and shined a light on sexual harassment in the workplace. She knows the issues that affect people’s daily lives like the trains and buses they take to work and has fought to improve our public transportation system throughout her career.
Unafraid to challenge the status quo, Loretta defines “good trouble” as described by the late Congressman John Lewis.
We appreciate your service, Senator Weinberg.
