MacArthur Statement on 2018 North Korea–United States Summit

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom MacArthur issued the following statement on the 2018 North Korea-United States Summit.

“As someone who adopted two of my three children from Korea, I often think of the life they would have lived if they were born in Pyongyang instead of Seoul. Let’s not forget that Kim Jong Un is a brutal dictator whose actions matter more than his words. During my visit to the region last year, I saw firsthand the tensions that currently exist and am hopeful that this summit is the first step in bringing lasting peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula. In the coming weeks and months, we must have a robust verification process to show that North Korea is completely denuclearizing. Anything short of that is entirely unacceptable.”
